Senior citizens and our pollinators value the native garden we installed and continue to maintain at the Wake Forest Center for Active Aging. We also provide and maintain the patio flowers.

We commend the Town of Rolesville for prioritizing the removal of invasive plants and installing natives at Main Street Park. NRHC donates plants and organizes volunteer workdays. Funds for additional plants will be provided by the Rolesville Community Funding Program in fall of 2025.

Completed Projects

10. stormwater

Our volunteers collaborated with the Wake Forest Stormwater Department to determine the feasibility and benefits of installing pollinator plants at retention ponds in 2023.

11. girl scout

NRHC gardeners supported a Girl Scout at Franklin Academy High School by providing design guidance, and donating plants and an educational sign for the native garden she installed at the school in 2024. We provided educational materials for the class on native plants she subsequently taught as part of her Gold Star project.

12. forest ridge

Our members worked with staff from Raleigh Parks to design, choose plants for, and create the Forest Ridge Wildlife Garden.  We helped build it from scratch, and took care of the garden from 2017 through 2023 through the Raleigh Adopt a Park program.

13. bradford pear exchange

We commend the Town of Wake Forest for their Bradford Exchange program in 2023. We volunteered with the Town for this wildly popular event in which the public could provide proof of having removed an invasive Bradford Pear in exchange for a life-sustaining native tree.

15. wildlife habitat steward training group photo

NRHC members were invited to participate in the NCWF Wildlife Habitat Steward Training. We heard from many experts in the field of wildlife habitat restoration, visited a local native garden, and completed a native planting project.
